First Annual Student Showcase with MS 325X, PS 53X & PS/MS 147Q

June 2nd, 2009 @ Abrons Art Space Recital Hall

For the first time in the Manhattan New Music Project’s nineteen year history, we are bringing together multiple student groups to perform alongside one another in a public venue. The Abrons Arts Center has generously donated its playhouse for an exciting evening of dance, drama, poetry, and percussion. Five student groups will represent three public schools from the Bronx and Queens: MS 325X, PS 53X and PS/MS 147Q.

These students, ranging in grade level from 4th to 8th, will present the culminating performance of the arts programs they have been participating in through a partnership between the Manhattan New Music Project and the New York City Department of Education.

- MS 325X Brazilian Drumming + special guest singer (teaching artist Liz Hanson)

The Abrons Arts Center brings innovative artistic excellence to Manhattan’s Lower East Side through diverse, cutting-edge performances; exhibitions/artist residencies, classes and workshops for all ages, including pre-professional training for youth; and arts-in-education programming at public schools. Some of the most adventurous artists of the past century have trained, taught, or performed at Henry Street, including John Cage, Aaron Copland, Dizzy Gillespie, Martha Graham, Alicia Keyes, Alwin Nikolais, Jackson Pollack, Denzel Washington and Orson Welles.
