Oneza Lafontant

C. “Oneza” Lafontant is a cultural activist who uses indigenous music to create interest in history, human rights and social justice issues among youth in public schools throughout the New York area. He has worked for the Education Department of the American Museum of Natural History and Open Classroom Collaborative. Currently he does workshops, residencies and assembly programs through the Caribbean Cultural Center and the Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service. Oneza founded the Haitian folk band KONGO, and is a 2004 recipient of the Union Square Awards.
