Teaching Artists
Lisa Karrer
Lisa Karreris an educator, composer, performer, and video artist. She also teaches Homemade Instrument, Music and Performance Skills residencies at schools and museums throughout the United States. She has developed innovative new music curriculum for many Special Needs Schools in the NYC area, and conducts PD Workshops for teachers who specialize in Learning disabilities. Her educational residencies have been supported by organizations such as The Rockefeller Fund and the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation. Lisa is currently a faculty member of the Kripalu Yoga Institute (along with her husband and co-teaching artist David Simons), conducting a wide range of Children’s Programs for ages 5 – 14. As an artist Lisa has received many grants to support her multimedia performance projects, both in this country and abroad. Her music can be heard on CDs by the groups Gamelan Son of Lion and Music For Homemade Instruments, as well as on The Birth of George, an opera with co-composer David Simons.
